PSW Clinical Placement
Introduction
The Clinical Placement section of the program is your opportunity to put the knowledge and skills you've learned in class to practice in an actual work setting! You will be matched up with one of our fantastic host facilities to learn on-site working side-by-side with full-time Personal Support Workers, assisting people of various ages and health conditions.
Clinical Placements
Long-Term Care Facility Placement (200 Hours)
General Requirements must be satisfied
Must satisfactorily complete all Theory Modules prior to LTC Placement
Community Placement (100 Hours)
General Requirements must be satisfied
Must satisfactorily complete all Theory Modules and LTC Placement
Host Facilities
Assigned Host Facility will be dependent on Facility availability at the time of placement. Typically our placements are within North York or Toronto. Requested for Special Host Facility may be made but are not guaranteed.
Pre-Placement Requirements
Prior to your Clinical Placement, you must complete the following requirements:
Police Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening
Medical Check/Health Report
Standard First Aid and CPR
N95 Mask Fit Certification

Police Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening
About:
The Vulnerable Sector Check provides the screening of individuals who intend on working or volunteering with vulnerable people, such as Seniors or children.
Directions:
Contact your local police department for instructions on how to obtain the police check/clearance
Can typically be submitted online or in-person
Cost:
Fee depends on the city where you live

Medical Check/Health Report
About:
The Medical Report outlines the mandatory medical requirements of the program including physical ability and required immunizations.
Directions:
The medical report form must be filled out by a physician
Cost:
Fees depend on your OHIP coverage and physician’s fees
Deadline:
Within 45 days of Class Start AND valid within 6 months of Placement
Standard First Aid & CPR (Level C or Higher)
About:
First Aid and CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) are emergency procedures used to provide immediate care to someone who is injured or experiencing a medical emergency, such as cardiac arrest, until professional help arrives. First aid involves treating minor injuries and stabilizing serious conditions, while CPR is a life-saving technique that helps maintain blood flow and oxygen to the brain and vital organs.

Outside Certification must be from a WSIB-Recognized Organization and equivalent to Red Cross
CPR must be Level C or higher

MHA Clinical Placement Contract
Must be signed by student and a College Representative
Complete any Facility-specific requirements

About:
Students may apply for up to 100 hours off of their precepted Clinical Facility Placement hours if they have the following:
Prior relevant work experience to that of a Personal Support Worker (PSW)
ie. Caregiver, Nurse, Midwife, etc.
